II. Current policy implementation

In addition to continuing to promote the markedly successful activities of the past, the Department of Cultural Affairs has selected the following four major points to serve as the central themes for further efforts over the next three years:
1. Revitalizing traditional culture: The Department will continue to hold the Chinese Character Festival; promote research in Taipei studies; foster traditional manners and customs and the reading of the Chinese classics by incorporating them into contemporary lifestyles; organize various kinds of folk culture events; help to pass on the legacy of traditional folk crafts; increase traditional arts performances and the opportunities for the public to enjoy them; and plan and design centers and museums for traditional arts performances.
2. Integrating culture in local communities: The Department will seek to establish a platform for the exchange of resources among workers in cultural history at the community level; nurture community-level cultural affairs seed workers; awaken identification with local communities among local residents; establish community information centers, shopping districts, public art, cultural sites, and spaces dedicated to the arts, culture and history; promote community arts and culture development centers; lead community residents to cherish green resources; and help arts and culture to penetrate deeply into local neighborhoods by supporting events organized by communities on their own initiative.
3. Promoting cultural activities among the youth: The Department is working to support and organize a variety of themed arts and culture events suited to the perspectives and activities of youth; provide adolescents with appropriate cultural and recreational venues; strengthen arts education and promotion in schools; use the capabilities of the media and the Internet to disseminate culture, in order to stimulate an atmosphere conducive to interest in the arts; reward and support cultural events organized around youth-based themes.
4. Encouraging the development of cultural industries: The Department is working to define the categories of cultural industries in Taipei City, and its potential areas and necessary conditions for development; found culture-based industrial parks and cultural industry museums; organize cultural industry fairs; train cultural industry workers, acquire survey information on cultural industries, organize cultural festivals and events in collaboration with cultural industries; create culture-based shopping districts; and promote the reutilization of cultural assets.
