The Annual Birthday Ceremony of Bo Gong (the Earth God)

On February 22, the Hakka Affairs Commission (HAC) will hold a birthday celebration for Bo Gong, the Earth God, whose birthday falls on the second day of the second month on the Lunar Calendar. In traditional Hakka culture, the Earth God is regarded as the most important guardian deity. Therefore, many people refer to the Earth God as "Bo Gong"--the Hakka term for elderly relatives who guide and protect one’s family. In ancient times, the Hakka people worshipped trees or rocks as symbols of the Earth God. As time passes by, piles of rocks that served as altars became Earth God temples of varying sizes.
The annual Birthday ceremony of Bo Gong will be held at Taipei City Hakka Cultural Park on February 22th. A host of 19 Bo Gong figurines from different districts of Taipei City will make appearances at the event this Saturday. HAC welcomes all residents to the Hakka Cultural Park to celebrate this occasion. For more information please call: (02)27026141, Ext.226.
