Urban planning has a great influence on a city's local development. In order to make the urban plan feasible and fully reflect local requirements, it is necessary that people have a thorough understanding of the planned areas and be invited to take part in the examination of the local urban plan. Accordingly, the Executive Yuan, in accordance with the provisions of the Urban Planning Law, set up urban planning commissions at varied levels from the Ministry of the Interior down to the township office to examine projects submitted by the department of urban planning.
The commission's mission is to examine and make every local urban plan executable. Those who are invited to be the commissioners include: the representatives of departments and agencies concerned, experts specialized in urban development and local enthusiasts in areas of public interest, who must have a thorough understanding of the planned areas. The commission meets regularly to hold hearings and to determine land use plans.
