Mayor Joins Kids in Observing Astronomical Wonder at TAM

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin attended a solar eclipse observation camp organized by the Taipei Astronomical Museum (TAM) on July 22. During the event, Hau accompanied 200 children from local orphanages to witness the unusual spectacle of a partial solar eclipse.
The mayor said he is thrilled about being able to witness the longest solar eclipse of this century. Although the ‘zone’ of the sun’s total eclipse does not include Taiwan, local sky watchers were able to see 82.6% of the sun covered in darkness. The natural wonder teaches us many things about the earth and the universe.
Following the Internet broadcast of the total eclipse live from Chongqing, China, the mayor and the group of children watched the spectacle at an outdoor venue. The young audience said they are very excited to see the partial eclipse.
