Mayor Inspects Renovated Huashan Market

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin arrived at Huashan Market to inspect the preparations for the next stage of renovation plans on July 30. The second floor of the thirty-year-old Huashan Market, with planned areas for food and grocery stalls, will undergo renovation and reopen to the public in October.
The Huashan Market is located in the central area of Taipei City. While not a large market, the complex houses well-known stores such as Hsi Lu Eggroll and La Ma Marinated Snacks; these stores offer unique delicacies. There is also a popular soybean milk store on the second floor.
During his trip to the market, Hau spoke with many vendors and asked them for their opinion about the renovation. The vendors with stalls on the first floor – which underwent renovations last October – indicated that the renewed structure helps to bring in more business. According to the mayor, many customers find the rundown environment of the old market uncomfortable.
To attract more visitors to the market, the city drafted a plan to overhaul the old building and strengthen the lighting, making the environment cleaner and brighter. He believes that this will provide visitors with a more positive shopping experience.
The city will start renovating the second floor in August. After renovations, the second floor will feature a food court and grocery area with room for twelve food stalls and six grocery stalls.
