DCA to Invest NT$50 Million for Recreation Center Renovations

To offer residents a high-quality gathering place and to encourage residents to use community facilities, the Department of Civil Affairs (DCA) will be investing NT$50 million to renovate 30 recreation centers in Taipei City. The renovated centers will reopen to the pubic by the end of 2009.
According to DCA, renovation place will focus on the effective use of space and user convenience. To achieve these objectives, the centers employ movable partitions to subdivide interior rooms; new signboards, help desks, and activity bulletin boards will be installed at the entrance.
The agency came up with the renovation plan for the district recreation centers in 2008, intending to renovate the city-owned venues step-by-step. In 2008, ten centers underwent renovation works; the aged building turned into brand-new facilities displaying a cleaner, brighter, and a more stylish appearance.
DCA pointed out that the rate of use for these centers jumped 27.6% during the first half of the year. Compared with the same period in 2008, the revenue from venue rental also increased by NT$276,428, demonstrating the effectiveness of renovation works in attracting people.
