Mayor Stars in Public Service Announcement for the Disadvantaged

As a part of the city’s public awareness campaign to help the disadvantaged, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin took time off from his busy schedule to star in a public service announcement. The shooting of the short clip took place at a park near Ruiguang Road in Neihu on July 27.
The mayor noted that it is more rewarding to give than to receive. He called on private companies and residents to help the disadvantages. According to Hau, the process is sure reward them with a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment.
In the TV spotlight, Hau plays the part of a volunteer worker helping physically challenged individuals. He took on the responsibility of pushing the wheelchair and helped the individual board a paratransit bus. He also spoke with the disabled actors during the filming session, learning about their concerns.
The City designated 2009 as the “Year of the Disadvantaged”. To help disadvantaged populations such as senior citizens, disabled people, individuals relying on social welfare, and disadvantaged families, the city government has implemented over 30 different kinds of welfare policies, hoping to extend aid to those requiring assistance.
To provide help to the four target groups, the City will emphasize on the level of family and local community. The different kinds of assistance include the providing of long-term care for disabled elders, the establishing of community health service stations for seniors, as well as the offering of community care for disabled individuals and daycare for young children.
