Mayor Meets with Members of Junior Chamber International Taipei

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin met with a 15-member delegation from the Junior Chamber International Taipei at city hall on July 29. Noting that the city is in the process of preparing for the upcoming Summer Deaflympics and the Taipei International Garden and Horticulture Exposition, he invited the organization to work with the city and help promote Taipei in the international scene.
Hau noted that young people play an important role in the development of our society. If young people care about the society and the disadvantaged population, there will be hope for the country’s future. He pointed out that Junior Chamber International Taipei has always placed a heavy emphasis on social service and provided much support to disadvantaged groups and public affairs.
According to the mayor, donations to charity and welfare groups have dropped significantly due to the global economic crunch over the past year. This demonstrates the difficulties charity groups encounter when trying to secure funds during these challenging times.
He hopes that the members of the organization will do more to help the disadvantaged and help to make our society better. Recalling his days working for the Red Cross Society of the Republic of China, Hau said he felt that his labor was meaningful because it made an impact upon the life of disadvantaged individuals.
As the elite members of society, Hau encouraged the outstanding members to help promote Taipei City to the international society, letting foreign friends know more about the friendliness of local residents.
