Mayor Attends Forum on Taipei Tech Corridor

The city government and Global View Magazine co-organized a forum on the future of the Taipei Technology Corridor on July 23 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. A signing ceremony of investment MOU between the City and two foreign IT firms – TDK and STMicroelectronics – also took place during the forum.
On behalf of Taipei City Government, Hau signed the MOU with the representatives of TDK and STMicroelectronices and pledged the City’s full support for the companies’ investment and growth in Taipei.
During his address, Hau expressed his gratitude to the international companies for investing in Taipei. He noted that the city government has worked on making the local environment – especially the two technology-related parks – more friendly and appealing for companies.
Since he became the mayor of Taipei, Hau said one of his strategies was to adjust regulations governing the Neihu Technology Park and Nangang Software Park to make way for improvements in transportation and public infrastructures, thereby offering the companies and their staff a better living and working environment.
In the process of upgrading the public transportation system for the local residents, Hau stressed that delivering a new MRT line each year is his major emphasis. In addition, he talked about the importance of cooperation with Taipei County Government, with the goal of future integration in mind. Doing so would help improve the region’s competitiveness with other major cities around the world.
He pointed out that city-county cooperation in cleaning up the Tamsui River has also paid off; the quality of the river water is at its best compared to the results of the past three decades. He believes that the river will play an even more important role in the future in residents’ life, much like the Hudson River in New York and the Seine River in Paris.
