ITRI to Build High-tech Pavilion for 2010 Int’l Horticulture Expo

Taipei City Government has commissioned the Industrial Technology Research Institution (ITRI) to design and construct the Pavilion of Dreams for the 2010 Taipei International Horticulture and Gardening Exposition (2010 International Flora Expo). Featuring a selection of digital interaction installations, the exhibition hall will highlight some of Taiwan’s cutting-edge technologies.
Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin and ITRI President Johnsee Lee unveiled the joint project during a press conference at Taipei City Hall on July 22.
Hau indicated that this would be the first time a major world-level exposition takes place in Taipei. According to the mayor, the 2010 International Flora Expo could be characterized as the Olympic Game of the horticulture industry.
By hosting the international event, Taipei demonstrates to the world its strengths in the field of floriculture and related technologies. In addition, it offers the city government a valuable opportunity to promote Taipei and Taiwan to the international community.
The Pavilion of Dreams is divided into five display areas; each area features a unique theme and a pioneering technology. Examples of the inventions placed in the pavilion include the world’s largest flexible speaker; the devise will suspend from the ceiling behind the “city garden” in the hall. The speakers will broadcast music as visitors enter the gate of “dreams”.
Located inside the Xinsheng Park, the Pavilion of Dreams is slated to open on November 6, 2010.
