Made in Taipei Wins National Publication Award

The Department of Information and Tourism (TPEDOIT) announced that “Made in Taipei: the Story of Taipei’s Brands” has won the honorable mention for the first National Publication Award. The award was established by the Executive Yuan’s Research, Development, and Evaluation Commission to recognize quality publications by government agencies.
The book explores some of the well-known Taipei stores and brand names. The publication resurrects a common memory for the city’s residents, highlighting the values and spirits behind these ‘products’ of Taipei.
The beginning of the book introduces 19 famous stores in Taipei; each of these stores possesses over 60 years of history, and some of the stores are winners of the city government’s Century-old Store Award.
The second part of “Made in Taipei” explores the stories of eight major brands that had their humble beginnings in Taipei; they eventually became big names on the international scene. Readers will learn about how companies such as Kuo Yuan Ye, Franz, and Din Tai Fung made their way to success.
The third section of the book presents some of the innovations of Taipei City Government, including the WIFLY municipal wireless broadband network, the city government’s “Taipei” brand souvenirs, the Dazi Bridge with its unique suspension design, and the landmark policy of per-bag garbage collection fee.
According to TPEDOIT, “Made in Taipei” is available at the following locations: City Souvenir Store (located on the first floor of city hall), the National Bookstore, Wunan Cultural Plaza Government Publication Bookstore, San Min Bookstore, books.com, or all Kingstone, Eslite, and Chien Hong branch stores.
