Taipei City Hall Gallery

This is a link http://gallery.taipei.gov.tw/cgi-bin/SM_theme?page=46440ccb To encourage the artistic creativity of Taipei’s residents, and to promote art as a part of life, the city government opened the "Famous Artist Art Gallery" in August, 1995. This is located on the 11th floor of the Taipei City Hall. From the first exhibition--of Chen Yang-chun's watercolors--all the artists who have been displayed in the gallery have been very well received.

The gallery accepts applications to display the works of artists who are citizens of the ROC, over 20 years of age and have been involved in art for over 10 years. The categories open to application are mainly two-dimensional art. The Taipei Fine Arts Museum enlisted a work-for-display selection committee. Each selected artist's work is displayed for a two-month period and twelve artists are selected for display on each occasion. Protection and insurance for the displayed works are the responsibility of the City Hall Management Office.

When hosting the ceremony for the opening of the Taipei City Hall Famous Gallery on January, 2000, Mayor Ying-jeou Ma requested that the gallery's exhibition services be expanded so that people in Taiwan and overseas could view the works on the Internet. Following these instructions, a Chinese-English Virtual Reality Gallery was established by the Taipei City Government’s Information Management Center on July 1st, 2000. On-line visitors are able to see different faces of the works, and the artists are better able to expand their international presence and carry out international exchange.
